About Me

Hi, I’m Amy,

After more than a decade working in Talent Acquisition across global corporates, startups and scaleups, I made the move into freelance in 2023 to offer a more flexible, human and effective way for businesses to hire.

I genuinely love hiring.


And I love challenging the traditional perception of what “recruitment” should feel like.

At its best, hiring is thoughtful, collaborative and deeply human. It’s about understanding people, understanding businesses, and bringing the two together in a way that lasts.

That’s the work that motivates me every day.

A few fun facts about me!

 

🐶 I'm a part-time professional dog sitter - I've looked after dogs in LA, Sydney and the UK - when we chat, there's a high chance i'll have a doggy with me! 

🐳 In 2023 I ticked off my ultimate bucket list goal of seeing orcas in the wild - it was the best day ever! Next, I want to see a moose!

✈️ I was in an emergency plane landing and spent 24 hours stranded on a remote pacific island! It was NYE and because of a crazy timezone limbo we completely missed New Years.

From corporate recruiter to helping SMBs grow

Throughout my career, I saw first-hand how fluctuating hiring needs impact productivity, decision-making and team morale.

Some businesses need full-time talent teams. Many don’t - but they still need senior hiring expertise.

Again and again, I saw how a consistent, transparent and collaborative approach to hiring transformed outcomes for hiring managers, leaders, candidates and businesses alike.

After returning to the UK in 2023 following eight years in Australia and New Zealand, I created The Surrey Co to give growing businesses access to that level of hiring support, without needing a full internal team.

Today, I partner with founders and leadership teams who understand the importance of hiring great people but don’t have the time, resource or need for a permanent talent function.

My approach to hiring​

Hiring isn’t an exact science.

Great hiring requires:

  • And a healthy dose of informed intuition

 

Over my career I’ve worked across:
Tech/SaaS, consulting, manufacturing, construction, PR, real estate, retail and financial services.

I’ve hired across:
Sales, marketing, customer success, finance, HR, product, technical support, operations, professional services and software engineering.

 

Working as a generalist across so many industries and functions has given me a unique superpower: context switching.

 

I quickly understand how different roles connect, how teams evolve at different growth stages, and how hiring needs change as businesses scale.

That’s what enables me to deliver highly targeted shortlists and help teams hire with real confidence.

A collaborative partner - not a traditional recruiter

I work as an embedded part of your team when you need hiring support but don’t have the internal capacity or specialist resource.

And if a role truly needs a niche or specialist recruiter?
